Event: 'Strider Cycle'

Other Event
Something else for you.
Date: Saturday, July 17, 2010 At 10:45

URL:

Meeting place :
Car park far end of Newbold common.
Free to park for anyone coming from outside Leamington who doesn't want the additional ride in.

Time :
10.45 for 11am start ( or earlier if you require more bike tweaking/ faffing time ).

The route:
Our basic route is a 25/30 mile circular route through pretty Warwickshire country side. Mainly on cycle paths and quiet country roads, with a bit of canal towpath and bridleway. Suitable for any type of bike really .

Food & Drink
I intend to carry water and a few energy boosting nibbles with me for when we stop to enjoy the view / re group / fix punctures etc .... so would suggest everyone else does also .
However, the route passes several good pubs so the plan is to have a drink / comfort stop within an hour, then a lunch stop and an afternoon tea stop. So carrying money with you is also recommended though not essential as you could " self cater ".

Time taken :
This will be mainly dependent on stopping time so is difficult to predict. I imagine if we cycled in a very relaxed manner we would still be finished in under 4 hours. However, I am hoping that it will be a glorious summer day so we will take this socialising seriously and meander along taking in the view, linger over our refreshments, stop ice cream vans etc and generally take all afternoon over it . Those with evening engagements to get to need not be put off though as we will be within striking distance of Leamington by mid afternoon so you can head for home early if need be.

What else to bring :
Whatever you need to make you feel happy out for the day cycling. My suggestions include, helmet, spare inner tube & pump , bike lock, padded shorts, depending on weather sun scream or waterproofs or both.

Cycling ability
All welcome. This is a Social bike ride ,so should be considered to be a non competitive event by even the most competitive of our members !

The plan is to split into 2 groups , each with a leader and a back marker .The slower group, which will probably be the largest may include children/ novice cyclists/ injured runners etc so the pace will never be more than steady.
A speedy cyclist will lead the fast group for me ( thanks Rich ),so a longer , faster ride will be an option for more experienced cyclists. Distance not yet calculated but the plan will be for them to meet us at the main stopping points.

Don't hesitate to contact me if you have any queries.
