Some 15 Striders took part in the fifth race of the winter series, the Shakespeare Raceways 10k, despite the forecast of high winds.

Once underway the course took runners away from the shelter of the start and into the openness of Long Marston airfield. The route crossed the airstrip giving ample opportunity to see fellow Striders, and it was slightly comforting to see others finding the conditions tough going. For me personally, ‘hiding’ behind fellow runners (not Strideres) on the headwinds seemed to help – still not too sure if this is entirely fair and if there should be any shame attached to this tactic!

First Strider home and in overall 7th place was Mike Ellis in 35:58, followed by Trevor Wilkinson in a PB of 38:17, also PB for Richard Brangwin 39:28. First lady Strider home for maximum points in the Championship was Carolyn Wilkinson in 41:08 and finishing an impressive 1st F35.

Tempo Tuesday
August 3, 2010 (18:45)
Leave from the club 6.45pm. 3 mile warm-up to Lillington. 4 miles at Tempo (running hard between half-marathon and 10k race pace). 2 miles cool down. This gives you 9 miles with 4 of them hard. New runners always very welcome.

New Runners Night
August 3, 2010 (19:00)
2/3 mile steady run. All abilities welcome. Each run is led by an experienced runner and no-one is left behind. A good way to get fitter and makes a great 'lead-up' to a Wednesday or Monday session if you have never run before.
