15 Striders took part in the recent Shakespeare Raceways 10K. The blustery conditions at Long Marston airstrip took its toll on most runners but Mike Ellis, consolidating his recent form, Trevor Wilkinson in a PB and Richie Merrell on his club race debut were the exceptions in times of 35:58, 38:17 and 38:21 respectively. These were followed by Rich Shephard 39:08, Richard Brangwin 39:28, Carolyn Wilkinson 41:08 (1st F35), John McNally 42:01, Vicki Smith 44:23, Neil Butcher 44:34, Darren Gillman 44:49, Nadine Fleckenstein 45:27, Richard Bicknell 45:52, Dawn Clark 46:02, Dave Lindsay 48:46 and Kate Evans 51:01. At the clubs Cross Country Handicap last Saturday, Pete Schofield proved to be the dark horse grabbing 1st place in the men’s race in 35:22 with Bethan Gywnn, in 36:34, taking the ladies prize. The handicapper did an excellent job with all competitors coming home within 5 minutes of each other over the testing 4 mile course. Finally over east at the Norwich Half Marathon, Mike Ellis clocked a time of 77:44, Nick Adams collected a PB in 92:24 and Dawn Clark finished in 97:50.
